Lofi Japan: An authentic selection

Updated: May 18

It's well known that, thanks to Nujabes, the Lo-fi phenomenon has deep roots in Japan. Unfortunately, Japanese beatmakers today are overlooked due to the "aesthetic-ification" of Japanese culture. As a result, the phrase "Japanese Lofi" has become a too-common trope that makes it incredibly difficult to follow and support the actual developing scene of Japanese artists.

My goal with curating this playlist is to reverse this trend and to host an authentic selection of Japan-based artists and labels for those of us who search for it–and to give Japan representation in a field they have much to offer. This plan is supported by Downtown Music Services, and backed by several Japan-based record labels such as Seto Chord Music, Japanolofi Records, and more.
